Kara (KAH-rah) Powers is a Black queer audiobook narrator who loves telling stories that transport her to other worlds and eras. Her grounded, erudite alto lends itself to portraying ordinary women learning to fight and lead in extraordinary circumstances — as well as those women's love interests across the gender spectrum. In addition to epic fantasy and modern romance, Kara is drawn to the adventure, sports, and coming-of-age middle grade and YA stories that raised her.Since graduating from college, where she performed musical theatre and toured six continents with award-winning singing groups, Kara has studied acting with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has training in Spanish and French, and an affinity for British and romance-language accents.Kara brings her eclectic professional experience to her nonfiction narration — with backgrounds in marketing, tech support, economic policy, and U.S. labor history. When she’s not recording in her home studio, she follows the “holy trinity” of women’s pro sports: basketball, soccer, and baseball.
